Personal Life
John has lived in Tarrant County for fifty four years. He grew up in the Wedgwood area of Fort Worth as the second oldest of eight children. His parents moved to Fort Worth (when he was less than one year old) when his father started his career at General Dynamics, now known as Lockheed Martin. His mother was a stay-at-home mom who went back to teaching nursing at UTA when his youngest sister started high school.
John is an honors graduate of Nolan Catholic High School (1976), Stephen F. Austin State University (2000) and St. Mary’s Law School (2003).
John has been happily married to his high school sweetheart, Rebecca, for over thirty years. After marrying, they lived in Arlington from 1983 to 1987, and then moved to Kennedale where they built their home and continue to live with their family. He and Rebecca are members of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church.
Rebecca has been an elementary education teacher for more than thirty years. She and John have raised two children who are both college graduates. Chris works for Alcon Laboratories and Samantha is completing her Masters in Special Education.
John is highly active in the community, having served as a Kennedale City Councilman from 1999 to 2012 and as Mayor of Kennedale since 2012. Some of his volunteer work includes Art-in-the-Park (Kennedale arts festival), Master of Ceremonies at Kennedale Christmas tree lighting, and the Texas Independence Day Parade. He also reads to children at Delaney Elementary, cooks and works in the concession stand at school events, assists in managing city-wide cleanup events, and rings the bell for the Salvation Army.
